Contra Dance: The Euphemists with Shell Stowell calling - June 13 2020

As a logically prudent measure due to the Coronavirus, the board of directors of the Eugene Folklore Society has decided to cancel the scheduled dance on Friday March 13th.

Check our Facebook page for updates, and we will also email you regarding further scheduled dances.

We hope that you all remain well, and we'll see you back soon dancing!

The Euphemists
are not your ordinary contra dance band. Yes, they have fiddle and piano (Alan Snyder and Dave Goldman) and whistle and and guitar (Norman Farrell and Jerry Nelson). Yes, they play familiar Celtic, Québécois, and old-time tunes. But they also have horns! With Norman and Jerry on saxophone and clarinet and Kaye Blesener on trombone, high energy is the result! You'll hear lively ragtime era tunes, hints of that big band sound when you least expect it, horn riffs playing off the fiddle, and old-time tunes being introduced to brass -- it's a marriage made in heaven.

Shell Stowell started contra dancing in 2015, and has been dancing up and down the West Coast ever since. Driven by her passion for the dance, music, and community, Shell now plays the fiddle and helps to organize the Corvallis Contra Weekend. As a dancer, Shell is known for her enthusiasm on and off the dance floor. As a caller, she incorporates her love of teaching, organizing, and music to strive for clear, energetic instruction and variety in her programming. Shell also emphasizes safe, inclusive dance etiquette that promotes positive communication between dancers.

The caller will be using non-traditional role terminology. Larks & Robins will be used throughout the dance.

Potluck will be at 5:30 pm at a contra dancer's home - NOT at the dance venue.
